Zombie Strippers!   (2007)

Zombie Strippers!, USA (2008)

The movie is written very well, most of the dialogs are very sharp and some situation are genuinely funny. There is a philosophical theme in this movie and even different approach to the zombie concept.
There is blood and gore, but it is more funny than disgusting. Enjoyable and surprisingly smart movie that will be cult for sure.
There is also a bonus: porn star Jenna Jameson is dancing around, and doing good job as an actress.

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer   (2007)

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, Canada (2007)

Interesting and cool  B-movie. No special effects at all, just makeup and puppets like all the classics. All the fun begins just near the ending, but the build up towards it is also nice.

Large potential for a cult status and at least one sequel.

Mirageman   (2007)

Mirageman, Chile (2007)

The movie looks like an amateur production, but the action is quite good and real. This movie is a combination between Turkish melodrama and Thai martial arts, so the result is kind of nice to watch. Great ending, but  not a great movie.

Vulgar   (2000)

Vulgar, USA (2000)

They Live   (1988)

They Live, USA (1988)

Long before The Matrix, John Carpenter wrote and directed this "what you see is not what's real" movie. And although this is just a B movie, nothing spectacular like The Matrix, somehow the political statement and the philosophical approach are quite sharp and direct. The lead, Roddy Piper, is not very good actor and he just doesn't bring the necessary depth to its character, but overall it suits the movie.
Great film because of the story and because it's not getting old and still fun to watch.

Picture
Grotesque and ridiculous space adventure with absurd costumes and wacky storyline. The film is a cult classic B movie, mixing post-apocalyptic with futuristic, and it's quite entertaining and watchable, if only to see Anjelica Huston in funny costume swinging a sword and fighting bulky robots. Many other famous actors here too.
Very amusing movie with many jokes and memorable moments, from the times when special effects were done manually, therefore people tried harder.

Clash Of the Titans, USA (1981)

Picture
This movie can be found in the dictionary under 'Most Outdated Movie Ever', 'Worst Special Effects Ever', 'Movies that must be remade', and if you look closely you may even find it under 'Pure Cinematic Abomination', 'Biggest Disrespect of Human Intelligence' and my personal favorite 'I can't believe so many people like this trash'.

Don't blame me, it's in the dictionary.

I've heard not so long ago about a possible remake and I had to see it. I must admit that the movie has certain appeal due to it's wacky story, and it could be great remake with current CGI technology. I can even recommend to see this movie, if only for its trash value. But be careful, the dictionary is never wrong.

Switchblade Sisters, USA (1975)

Picture
Wow, this movie is simply terrific. Considered as cult classic, and embraced by Tarantino as big fan of the film, Switchblade Sisters is still relatively unknown and totally underrated.
The story is smart, twisted, tragic and developed perfectly. It holds strong through the entire film, moving only upward. The dialogs are pure pleasure and each line is a perfect source for the mind blowing quote. The acting is over the top exaggerated and sometimes ridiculously bad, but it's so painfully consistent it just turns out to be absolutely convincing.
From the very start to finish this movie is thrilling and exciting, delivering the juicy goods of the B genre and creating incredible scenes with high emotional impact. I had a big smile on my face the whole time I watched it.
And it's all thanks to the cult director Jack Hill, which apparently went to the film school with Francis Ford Coppola and was a good friend of his, working together on Roger Corman's productions.
And frankly, this movie is in the same league as Coppola's Rumble Fish and The Outsiders, solidly placed on the same level as complete equal.
In fact, if Coppola was the one to direct this film, he would've make it exactly as it is, it's that good. Believe it.

Vampyres   (1974)

Vampyres, UK (1974)

Classic erotic horror, with more emphasis on "Erotic" part than on "Horror", during most of the film.
Many scenes in this movie are incredibly dull and boring. Like a person just walking and looking around for 5 minutes with absolutely nothing happens, but the sex scenes keep the interest and it worth the effort, because last 15 minutes are extremely good.
The ending provides that "Horror" part with great images, and I can only wish all the movie would've been like this.

Coffy, USA (1973)

Picture
Very cool example of cult Blaxploitation, and also the movie that made Pam Grier a big star.
She really shines in this film with powerful presence and great acting, varying her behavior, facial expressions and display of emotions in remarkable way. She is simply controlling the screen, delivering great lines and showing off her impressive physique with occasional frontal nudity.

The rest of the acting ensemble is also doing good job, with weird characters and grotesque faces. The movie is well made, mixing violence with sex, and adding some political and social elements as well.

There are of course some problems too, like not always coherent narrative and the lack of something so outstanding that will prevent from this movie to age. But it's not there and the film ends up as just outdated classic, like a car that you keep for emotional reasons but it will never drive again.

A must see for everyone who like 70's exploitation genres.

Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion (Japan, 1972)

Picture
Good example of the Pink Eiga genre, Japanese exploitation cinema that dominated local film industry from early 60s to mid 80s. Focusing on outcast female characters engaged in some sort of ridiculous plot, mostly revenge against male demonic antagonist, these movies featured violence, erotica and just general sleaze.

This film is one of the "woman in prison" sub genre, and all recognizable elements of sexploitation are here as well. Betrayed by the man that took her virginity and made her into a woman, "Matsu"finds herself in prison, struggling to survive among harsh abuse by the prison guards and violent environment among the prisoners. In addition she is trying to escape the prison so she can have her revenge against the corrupt man that broke her heart and  put her there.

Despite number of nice moments, including lesbian sex scene, and decent visual side, the film is mostly dragging the story and lacking live energy, that can uplift it to the more climactic levels. Good for the fans of the genre, but not the best it can propose. There are two sequels to it.

Spider Baby or, The Maddest Story Ever Told, USA (1968)

Picture
Low budget B treat, considered classic in its genre. Although there is no gore and only a little violence, the film turns out to be disturbing and twisted.

Directed by cultish Jack Hill, it contains some creepy characters and scenes. And even if it's not very explicit, this is the origins of today's horror.

A well deserved remake is coming next year.
